Maritime museum and science center
Open international competition
The center is located at the tip of Tungeneset, in an area with very harsh climatic conditions and spectacular views over the sea and the horizon.
The building is divided into three wings that separates in their movement towards the sea, thus forming a sheltered outdoor space where visitors can take shelter. The scale of the volumes is based on that of the local building environment, and makes a good starting point for creating rational building structures with reference to local building traditions.
One of the three wings are raised and flipped up side down so that the building opens up in two directions, making the house part of a dialogue not only with the sea, but also with the bay, the marina, and the existing building environment just by the site.
